We hate the whole “your life looks fabulous on social media” thing, so we feel it’s our duty to present all sides of this full-time RV adventure. Early on in our travels we had the issue with our bedroom slide getting stuck—here are some other challenges (probably more like annoyances) we’ve had to manage through.
- Carefully planning your arrival to be able to lead a client workshop after you set up, only to find that the electricity at your chosen site does not work and you’ve got to move to a different one. Michele is VERY grateful that her clients were so gracious about her presenting from a windy patio while Andrew moved and set up the RV. (NOTE from Michele: Andrew’s ability to successfully back the rig into a spot all by himself does raise the question of how useful I really am to this whole process.)
- Getting ready to pull out of a site, doing a final safety check, and realizing that there’s something wrong with the hitch (you know, that thing that connects RV to truck?!). Thankfully, those red boxes of tools and gadgets in the “basement” of the RV mean that we are generally likely to have a good solution (in this case, a very strong padlock did the trick).
- The kidney stone scare, when Andrew woke up one morning with intense pain that very thorough scientific googling clearly identified as a kidney stone symptom. Apparently that “in the moment delicious” roadside quesadilla was the true culprit!
- And in other dietary indiscretions—the time Harley ate something he shouldn’t have and woke us up every three hours to take him out (he slept all day, and this went on for 10 days!). We now know how to research and connect with local vets (although we hope that if we have to do that again, the local vet will not also be dealing with a kennel cough outbreak).
- And of course….THE RAIN.
We fully realize that we are incredibly fortunate to be on this adventure, and that these are all silly First World problems that pale in comparison to the challenges we’ve seen folks managing in towns, cities, and states nationwide. More on that to come…
