Caravan Roaming

Thoughts on travel, work, and life

Everything but the truck

Many of you have heard this sad story—we purchased the RV in February, promptly ordered a new truck to pull said RV, did another round of packing and purging. Then we realized that the truck was not going to be ready for our May 1 departure date.

Plan B: Airbnb all the way. Since May 1, we have stayed in a lovely, quiet (almost spookily so) beach cottage in Wareham, MA; a fun, funky artist’s loft in Warren, RI (a fabulous place for a long weekend from the Boston area!); a kitschy beach house in Old Orchard Beach, ME; a tiny house in Quechee VT. From June 1 – July 18, we were in Montreal in a studio apartment on the 41st floor of an apartment tower conveniently located on the edge of Griffintown—within walking distance to Lachine Canal, Ste. Catherine Street and all of the circus festivities in the Latin Quarter (more on that in another post).

Lessons learned.

Sometimes pet-friendly means “smells like cats.”

You probably don’t need as much clothing as you think you do.

There are fabulous walking trails to be found everywhere (which is good because there are equally fabulous breweries, cideries, and wineries around every corner).

Definitely look at photos closely… places tend to be smaller than portrayed online.

Scratch Bagels in South Portland, ME, are the best bagels on the planet (yes, better than Montreal bagels).
